Below you can view interesting and entertaining articles on the world of high finance, blog-style.  Whenever we write or find a noteworthy article, we will add it to the website.

03/05/10  Welcome to spring!  What's the state of market sentiment right now?  We look to the side of the road, where we see the snow has melted, but the residue leftover isn't pretty.  That's a whole lot better than when everyone is bullish.

01/10/10  Monarch Lunch notes are available on our password-protected Our Research page (log in and then click on the chart link at the top of the page or call Monarch if you need assistance).

11/25/09  Some End-of-the-Year IRA Reminders -- If you're considering charitable gifts from your IRA, or are contemplating a conversion to a Roth IRA, or took a withdrawal from your IRA in 2009 and would like to put it back into your IRA, you might want to read this. Please know that you should consult your tax advisor before taking any action on these.

09/03/09  Strategas report - a hodgepodge of fresh economic charts

08/16/09  "We Don't Spend Enough on Healthcare" - a Wall Street Journal op-ed.  The author turns the health care reform debate completely on its head, suggesting that health care is a source of productive national growth, rather than a cost.  It's wacky, but does make the reader think.  The op-ed has elicited much controversy, though not to the level of Whole Foods CEO/founder John Mackey's op-ed (which makes a lot of sense to us capitalists): "The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare."

05/07/09  What to do with this rally?  With the market having recovered so much, so fast, all pundits are asking "is this a bear market rally?"  We'll take a stab at it.

03/05/09  What we know and what we don't know...Our impression is that we’ve all, individually, picked up bits and pieces of this economic crisis, but we’re having some difficulty putting it all together.

03/05/09  Where will new money for stocks come from?  Our friends at Strategas wrote a very thoughtful piece on this subject.

11/20/08  Temporary Insanity?  While we wonder whether the market has completely lost its mind, or is merely temporarily insane, we look to some of our favorite quantitative indicators for some degree of comfort.

06/27/08  Historical stock market returns - in the running to be one of the worst 10-year periods for stocks.

06/17/08  Manhunt Over - Crude Villains Found.  Monarch dives headfirst into the problem that is oil prices.

06/17/08  Banks Stocks - Has the Towel Been Thrown in Yet?

06/05/08  The gurus at Strategas offer some insight on a grab-bag of economic issues.  These include: bond yields, money market funds, oil prices, and consumer confidence levels.  Consumer confidence is near a rock-bottom level, but what you might not know is that this has historically been a good time to buy stocks.

04/23/08  National City Gets Capital - Was it a bailout or a buyout?  For shareholders, it doesn't matter too much but we've provided a fact sheet on the deal for your information.  This is the saddest chapter yet in the saga titled "National City buys, dismantles Fort Wayne National Bank."

04/01/08  Gloom has been a Global Phenomenon - 1st quarter U.S. market returns vs. other markets.

04/01/08  Merck Shareholders Feeling Heart Problems - If Merck is now a five letter word in your vocabulary, you might want to read our take on the Vytorin snafu.

03/07/08  While the vast majority of people believe we're running out of oil, Nansen G. Saleri, president and CEO of Quantum Reservoir Impact in Houston, has a contrary opinion.  And, oh, by the way, Mr. Saleri was formerly head of reservoir management for Saudi Aramco. (Wall Street Journal Online)
